Modern dispenser design sets the tone: HEWI Series 477
Interview with the HEWI product manager Johanna Radies
Product trends come and go, but true classics remain. Proven favourites retain their appeal over the years and inspire generations of users. They are characterised by their durability and iconic design, which is always appreciated. But even classics are given a breath of fresh air from time to time in order to adapt to modern trends and new requirements and to maintain their place in contemporary design.
HEWI attaches great importance to maintaining icons. Design and colour in particular are elementary when it comes to giving a design classic a contemporary look. HEWI has further developed the dispenser products in the 477 accessory series. The design of the products has been revised and adapted to modern standards. Models have also been added so that a full range is now available.
In the interview, HEWI product designer Johanna Radies talks about the 477/801 series - consisting of the 477 accessories series and the barrier-free 801 product series -, the revised dispenser design and its development process.
HEWI: Series 477/801 from HEWI is now a classic. Ms. Radies, can you explain what the series stands for and where it all started?
Johanna Radies: Series 477/801 has stood for product quality and customer satisfaction for 40 years. With the launch of the 477 accessories in 1980 and the addition of the 801 barrier-free products in 1984, HEWI created one of the most comprehensive polyamide ranges on the market. The products stand for functionality, easy cleaning, robustness, durability and a pleasantly warm feel. The products made of polyamide reflect our expertise in the field of plastics and injection moulding technology and demonstrate our system competence due to the excellent depth of the range and the variable standard.
HEWI: Why did HEWI decide to revise and expand the range of dispenser products in the 477 accessory series?
Johanna Radies: The 477/801 series has grown continuously over the years. Nevertheless, despite the outstanding depth of the range, only a few dispenser products such as the paper towel dispenser, paper waste bin and soap dispenser were added to the series. Due to the increasing demand in the market and our plastics expertise, the expansion to include a complete dispenser programme has been indispensable. Especially in professional care and in highly frequented public areas, it is essential to create a consistent hygiene programme.
HEWI: Ms. Radies, what has changed in contrast to the existing dispensers and how do you describe the design of the new products?
Johanna Radies: Basically, with the 477/801 series, the recognition value of the series and the individual products is very important. We have formally adapted the existing as well as the new dispenser products to the 477/801 series. The new dispenser products therefore form a fully comprehensive plastic dispenser series with a consistent design. This lives from a classic, simple and yet appealing, modern design language: Straight lines and large radii. The revival of materiality and surfaces emphasises the updated, modern design language.
HEWI: What are the distinctive features of the advanced dispenser products?
Johanna Radies: Well, the use of colour is an essential part of the entire series 477/801. The housing of the new dispenser products is available in either signal white or pure white and its discreet colour scheme gives it a subtle appearance. Coherent or striking accents can be set especially in the functional areas. In this way, elements such as the removal or insertion opening can be individually highlighted. You can choose from all 16 glossy HEWI colours and five matt neutral colours.
HEWI: Can you perhaps conclude by summarising once again the advantages created by the new products on offer, Ms. Radies?
Johanna Radies: The new dispenser products are available as a fully comprehensive range with a new design, creating a unified and complete image together with the other products in the range. Thanks to the choice between manual and sensory products, customers can select the ideal dispenser for different areas of application. The products are designed to ensure easy handling at all times. Thanks to the large radii, there is also a low risk of impact and injury. The use of high-quality materials makes the products durable and robust.
HEWI: Thank you very much for the interesting interview, Ms, Radies!
