Accessibility: Easier, more intuitive use
Standards build awareness-builders for our planning principles in an ageing society. In our society, all people from young to old should be taken into account, with all their different abilities and diverse needs. In this article we want to discuss why simple and intuitive use is important.
Today, accessibility is indispensable for many people, necessary for very many and represents an important comfort and quality feature for everyone without exception.
HEWI takes into account the diversity of society by producing innovative fitting solutions, both for our public areas and our homes. By always being in harmony with forward-looking architecture , HEWI creates solutions that can be intuitively controlled and operated by everyone.
Future-proof solutions
We live Universal Design as a sustainable and holistic design philosophy. All our solutions interact to create modular, expandable furnishing concepts with a consistent design goal. What this means is that accessories can be supplemented with comfort products and accessible elements as a matter of course, depending on the individual needs of the users. The results are that intergenerational bathrooms from a single source, standards-compliant sanitary solutions and ranges for the accessible design of corridors and doors.
Design and function form an inseparable unit at HEWI. Each product created with a reduced and timeless design that blends harmoniously into any bathroom ambience. Intelligent functions enable the solutions to be used easily and intuitively by everyone. Designed to suit all ages and personal abilities, depending on how much or how little support is required. Universal Design is both oriented towards people and is designed by people.
Design for all
Universal design is also about avoiding unnecessary complexity. The way HEWI products function is easy to understand. Operating elements are made visible by several senses and can be identified and used intuitively. This is not just about standards-compliant products, such as folding grab handles or seats, but also about fittings and accessories. Even for everyday tasks like hand washing, the equipment around the washbasin should be designed so that it can be used by all generations.
We also attach great importance to even the smallest elements. Take for example the soap dispenser from our Range 477/801, where only the push-button for dispensing the soap is clearly highlighted by the simplicity of a colour contrast. This makes it easy to see and you automatically reach for the functional part of the product. The slightly roughened surface of the push button also makes the functional element tactile. And of course, using the soap dispenser with one hand means it can be used easily and intuitively by everyone.
